2) Substrate selection and properties

Substrate selection is a key step in product development work. In addition to the mechanical, aesthetic, economic and process engineering properties, the bonding properties must also be considered.

This section describes the key properties of the main classes of materials and outlines their suitability for adhesive bonding.

An extremely wide range of materials is available. Just like there are many different alloys of metals, there are a great many different plastic materials. The same is true for glass, ceramics and wood.

In some cases, therefore, the information given here will not wholly suffice. Further information can be obtained from the technical literature or by contacting an external service provider.
